Raised in Florida by a single mom, Drone was able to attend Duke University on a scholarship and later graduated from Harvard Law School in 1978.

After graduating from law school, Drone worked as a lawyer and founded Drone & Ellis, today one of Dixie's top law firms. 

​

Upon seeing the state of the public school system, Drone ran for Hunter Township school board. During his tenure on the board, Drone stressed achieving high performances while also cutting spending. After a successful 7 years on the Board, Drone ran for Woodruff County Executive and won.

Drone ran for Congress after achieving his goal of cutting county expenses by 10%.

An experienced legislator, Drone is seen as a champion of traditional values and small government.

Drone resides on a farm in Oklahoma with his wife, Janet. They have raised 17 children so far, many of whom were adopted. Janet and Drone plan on adopting several more children. Drone's son Jefferson currently holds his father's previous position as Woodruff County Executive and his other son Jackson is a member of the Hunter Township school board.
